that were hardest hit by super storm sandy. the white house says that the president is requesting more than $60 million. in a joint statement, new york governor andrew cuomo in new jersey gov. chris christie sake, the money will help their states recover, repair, and rebuilt. if they also say the money will be used to protect a region from future storms. both governors recently went to washington to lobby lawmakers for federal funds. american airlines pilots overwhelmingly approved a new labor deal it could help the company out of bankruptcy. the allied pilots association says that three-quarters of its nearly 8000 pilots voted for the agreement. the deal includes some compromises on work rules and but benefits. >> shock, sadness and anger in england this morning. a nurse treating the duchess of cambridge, kate middleton for pregnancy complications apparently took her own life. it happened after that nurse took the price call from to australia and disk jockeys. they were pretended to be queen elizabeth who wanted to check what milton. the nurse put the call through. kron 4 urs catherine hee
, outside the wake of sandy hook elementary principal dawn hochsprung. and there was this. hundreds of firefighters standing at attention at the funeral of 7-year-old daniel barden, who wanted to be one of them when he grew up. today, vice president joe biden will begin meeting with law enforcement officials to discuss how to prevent another tragedy like newtown. we're going to have more on those talks coming up in just a moment. >>> and new concerns about marijuana and prescription drug use among teens this morning. a new survey finds 23% of high school seniors now admit smoking pot in the last month alone. 7% say they smoke it every day. and 1 in 12 teens now admits to using the stimulant adderall, which treats attention deficit disorder. a significant increase from just three years ago. >>> and finally, a $500 million mystery this morning after a whole lot more than a prayer was left at jerusalem's holiest of sites. a visitor at the famed western wall found an envelope, you guys. it was filled with more than 500 checks, each written for $1 million. the checks were signed but not
at sandy hook elementary is bringing back grim memories of other school shootings. in 1999 two students opened fire at columbine high school in littleton colorado killing a dozen classmates and teachers before turning the gun on himself. another gunman killed himself at the virginia tech campus and killed 33. and earlier this year, a gunman shot and killed several people at oikos university. that man is now in jail. we have comments from some of the family members of the the oikos shooting. >>> and law enforcement sources say at least three guns were found at the shooting scene. two pistols were found inside the school. one was a glock. a three 234 caliber rifle was at a car parked at that school. that car is said to belong to the gunman's mother. the debate over guns flairs up every time there's a shooting like this. we'll take a look at california's own gun laws. >>> the school shooting once again raises questions about campus security, what can be done to better protect children, students and faculty from another deadly attack. >>> ktvu's alex sadvige has been looking at this with se

where public schools allow guns on campus. but in the wake of the shooting at sandy hook, the push is on to add more states to that list. arizona's attorney general wants every school principal or the designee armed. in ohio, applications for one shooting course for teachers are up 20%. arming teachers is a lot like arming airline pilots. simply knowing that someone on campus might be carrying a gun could be enough to stop the bad guys. in 1997, an armed high school vice principal in mississippi did manage to stop a 16-year-old shooter on a rampage. but there was also columbine. 15 people died and the armed security guard on campus and another one nearby could not stop it. >> the nra's blanket call to arm our schools is really nothing more than a distraction. >> reporter: some teachers in utah say they want more gun training. and organizers are already planning another class for the next holiday break. cecilia vega, abc news, los angeles. >> you didn't have any armed teachers when you grew up, did you? >> i did. i had an armed teacher, not a teacher, an officer and a drug sniffing
